There are serious disparities in our own communities. People in Central Alabama are struggling with hunger. They could be our neighbors, kids in our children’s classes – the possibilities go on. The real numbers are devastating; 73,000 children in Central Alabama say their children sometimes skip meals, do not eat for a whole day or go hungry because there is not enough money to buy food for the household. Food insecurity is particularly catastrophic for children.
A child can suffer both physically and mentally as a result of not having enough nutritious food. Extensive research has taught us that there is a vital link between food insecurity and delayed development in young kids; risk of chronic illnesses like asthma and anemia; and behavioral problems like hyperactivity, anxiety and aggression in school-age kids.
The Grogan Agency knows the suffering is real. We are dedicated to helping children of our community with the food, shelter, and the education they need to thrive. Community Foodbank of Central Alabama is an amazing organization that seeks to “bring compassion to the most vulnerable children.” Ultimately, our agency wishes to spread awareness by supporting them.
